Ajith Kumar Scales Back Racing After Crash: Will Compete in Dubai 24H Race

Actor Ajith Kumar recently jumped back into racing with a lot of enthusiasm, but a crash during the practice session for the 24H Dubai 2025 has made him rethink things. His team shared a statement on Saturday, saying that the actor-racer has made a ‘tough’ yet ‘selfless’ decision for his own safety and the safety of his team, Ajith Kumar Racing.

Ajith Kumar is going to take a step back

Ajith had a rough time during the practice for the 24H Dubai 2025 endurance race when he crashed his car into a barrier, completely wrecking it. Fortunately, he walked away without a scratch. His team announced that while he’ll still be the owner, he’ll only race as a driver for Razoon in the Porsche Cayman GT4 (number 414).

The team shared, “In the past few days, the core committee of Ajith Kumar Racing has carefully evaluated the effects of the recent crash involving Mr. Ajith Kumar during the Dubai 24H Series preparations. The 24-hour endurance racing format is incredibly challenging, and the team is mindful of the hurdles that lie ahead in this long season. Mr. Ajith Kumar’s health and the overall success of the team are our top priorities.”

The committee has apparently updated their ‘strategy’ and made some ‘changes’ after discussions. The statement says, “After some serious thought, Mr. Ajith Kumar has made the tough but selfless choice to step back from driving for Ajith Kumar Racing in the upcoming Dubai 24H Series.” It also adds, “Staying true to his unwavering love for motorsport, Mr. Ajith Kumar will still be actively involved in the Dubai 24H Series.”

To explain Ajith's reduced role while still being part of the action, the statement notes, “In a unique and daring move, he will take on a dual role as the owner of Ajith Kumar Racing by Bas Koeten in the Porsche 992 Cup Car (Number 901), while also racing as a driver for Ajith Kumar Racing by Razoon in the Porsche Cayman GT4 (Number 414) during the event.”

When fans thought this meant Ajith wouldn’t be racing at all, his team cleared it up, saying, “Ajith sir is racing today. While he remains the Team Owner for Ajith Kumar Racing, he will be driving for Ajith Kumar Racing by Razoon shortly.”

Future tasks ahead

Ajith is back on the racing track after over ten years! He’s participated in international races in the past, but balancing that with his film career was always a challenge. While at the 24H event, he shared that he’ll only focus on movies during the off-season from racing. He’s got two films coming out—Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly. Vidaamuyarchi was initially set for a Pongal release but got pushed back, and we’re still waiting for a new date. Meanwhile, Good Bad Ugly is hitting theaters on April 10.
