Aitraaz, which featured Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, turned 20 on Tuesday. As per the latest reports, Subhash Ghai discussed the milestone: Aitraaz 2 is currently under production.

Subhash Ghai's creative partnership with Abbas-Mustan

The filmmaker was one half of the creative partnership with Abbas-Mustan, who oversaw the 2004 film's production. As per HT City, Ghai enlisted the help of OMG 2 (Oh My God 2, 2023) writer-director Amit Rai for the sequel. The veteran filmmaker claimed that Rai has written a beautiful script, and he heard it was called Aitraaz 2.

Sequel's theme and modern context

Aitraaz bravely and poignantly tackled the topic of sexual harassment in the workplace. When asked if the sequel would likewise be based on a similar concept, Ghai went on to share that Rai has written about today's sex life, incorporating new ideals and a new school of thinking.

The 2004 film marked a new peak in Priyanka's career. The Pardes director also revealed that they have a wish list, but we'll have to wait and see who makes the final cut. He also revealed that they are now in the midst of casting the film's female protagonist. Ghai has no doubt that the actor, like Priyanka before him, will receive numerous accolades for her performance in this daring character.

Original plot overview

In Aitraaz, Akshay Kumar plays the role of Raj Malhotra, a prosperous businessman who is blessed with a beautiful wife Priya, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan. Just when Raj believes things are looking up, his ex-girlfriend Sonia (Priyanka Chopra), who is now the boss's wife, reappears in his life and develops feelings for him. She claims he raped her after he turned down her sexual advances. With the backing of his wife Priya, he swiftly reverses the situation and initiates a sexual harassment lawsuit against Sonia.

Aitraaz is available to stream on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium) and Prime Video.
