Singer Sona Mohapatra shared her observations regarding the transformation she perceived in actress Aishwarya Rai before and after she was crowned Miss World, as well as the trajectory of her career following that achievement. In a recent interview with Love Lingo for their YouTube channel, Sona discussed her commitment to working "18 hours a day" in order to maintain her independence and avoid being "under anybody's thumb."

Sona Mohapatra talks about being helpless in India

The vocalist remarked that an individual would integrate into the "eco-system more effectively if one were also somewhat helpless," further stating that "helplessness, in essence, transcends gender." The host mentioned encountering a post on social media that suggested, "one should recognize the appropriate moments to display ignorance."

Sona opens up about changes in Aishwarya Rai

Sona Mohapatra was inquired about her thoughts on the matter, to which she replied, "I recall the first time I encountered Aishwarya Rai during my visit to Bombay for my NID entrance examinations. I had taken a train prior to the Bombay riots. At that time, she was pursuing a degree in architecture and was older than I am. She had a classmate who was a family friend, and they were quite close. Aishwarya was stunning, exceptionally intelligent, and articulated her thoughts very well; she excelled and eventually became the prominent figure she is today."

"There was a time when I observed her in interviews and thought, 'This is not the Aishwarya I remember.' She seemed to adopt a more diplomatic demeanour, often giggling, which might have been a phase for her. Nevertheless, I always believed she is a remarkably intelligent woman. However, the industry she is part of may pressure her to downplay her intellect, though I could be mistaken. It appeared that she had toned down her persona," Sona further elaborated.

About Aishwarya

Aishwarya aspired to be an architect and enrolled in the Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture. However, she eventually discontinued her studies to focus on a career in modelling. In 1994, she achieved the title of Miss World. Her acting career commenced in 1997 with Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar, and she also made her Bollywood debut that same year in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. Since then, she has appeared in numerous films. Most recently, she was featured in Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023).
