Aimee Lou Wood Critiques 'Mean' SNL Sketch: 'It's Quite Regrettable'
11 days ago | 5 Views
Actress Aimee Lou Wood has expressed her dissatisfaction with the portrayal of her in a recent sketch on Saturday Night Live (SNL). The sketch, which parodied her acclaimed HBO series The White Lotus by transforming it into ‘The White Potus’, humorously targeted U.S. President Donald Trump, his wife Melania, and their family. Additionally, Aimee's character, the kind-hearted Chelsea, was depicted by actress Sarah Sherman with exaggerated buck teeth and a perceived lack of intelligence.
Aimee Lou Wood calls out mean sketch by SNL
Aimee She took to her Instagram stories to express her thoughts on the matter. “I found the SNL segment to be unkind and lacking humor. (I felt justified in my feelings, but I might remove this later),” she stated. In a subsequent post, she remarked, “It’s unfortunate because I truly enjoyed watching it a few weeks ago. Yes, satire is part of the show’s essence — but surely there’s a more intelligent, nuanced, and less superficial approach?”
Aimee later shared that SNL had issued an apology to her. She clarified that she does not hold Sarah responsible for the situation. “This will be my final comment on the issue. I am not overly sensitive. In fact, I appreciate clever humor that pokes fun in a lighthearted manner. However, the joke centered around fluoride. I have a noticeable gap in my teeth, not poor dental health. I don’t mind being caricatured — I recognize that’s part of SNL’s style. Yet, the remainder of the skit was aimed at those in power, while I and Chelsea were the only ones targeted in a derogatory manner... That’s all I have to say…”
“Actually, one final note. This isn’t @sarahsquirm's fault x I’m not directing any negativity towards her, but rather towards the concept x.”
Aimee's supporters are equally taken aback by the harsh skit. One user on X commented, “She was justified in calling them out.” Another added, “It was an amazing sketch that was entirely undermined by this. They treated her unfairly.” Additionally, another individual highlighted the problematic nature of the situation, stating, “I don't believe some people understand that the issue lies in mocking the actress rather than her character.”
Did someone call her ugly at HBO?
Aimee She also shared her recent remarks regarding experiencing imposter syndrome on set and how being labeled as 'ugly' was misunderstood. In a recent interview with GQ, she stated, “Mike (White, the creator) had to request, ‘Please let me have the ugly girl!’”
She stated, “Nobody at HBO called me ugly!” and elaborated on how Mike White advocated for her inclusion in the show “in a kind manner.” She continued, “It genuinely came from a place of kindness, but my mind tends to think: ‘HBO didn’t want me. And I understand why HBO didn’t want me; it’s because I’m ugly.’”
In addition to Aimee, the cast for season three featured Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Parker Posey, Sam Nivola, and Sarah Catherine Hook. Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, and Michelle Monaghan portrayed three best friends whose personal challenges emerge during their stay at the resort, alongside Walton Goggins.
