Ahsaas Channa has been experiencing immense joy following the release of the third season of Mismatched. Her portrayal of the character Vinny has garnered significant admiration, and the on-screen chemistry between her and Taaruk Raina's character Anmol has become a widely discussed topic. In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Ahsaas shares her insights on Mismatched season 3, reflects on her career to date, and discusses her future prospects.
Mismatched 3 and the rising popularity of Vinmol
Numerous enthusiasts of the series assert that 'Vinmol' has 'triumphed' in Mismatched season 3, establishing itself as the most compelling character. Although Ahsaas minimizes any notion of rivalry, she expresses her delight regarding the favourable reception. "We anticipated this and were somewhat expecting it. During the filming of season 3, Taaruk and I shared a photo together, which garnered the highest number of likes and comments. This led us to conclude that viewers are eagerly awaiting #VinMol when the show premieres," she shares with us.
In the contemporary era of social media, the influx of positive feedback, trending hashtags, and an abundance of Reels provides immediate satisfaction for numerous artists. However, Ahsaas perceives things differently. "I generally consider myself to be quite insecure," she expresses cautiously, further stating, "I constantly have the thought that 'this could all disappear.' Given my nature, I am unlikely to allow such attention to inflate my ego. I make a conscious effort to keep it at bay, much less allow it to overwhelm me. I do not take it for granted. Whenever I receive significant affection, my instinct is to respond with gratitude."
The surge of over-the-top (OTT) services
Ahsaas has been involved in acting for two decades, despite being only 25 years old. She expresses that the industry continues to astonish her. "Approximately seven to eight years ago, I envisioned a straightforward trajectory for myself: I would pause my career as a child actor, complete my education, and then return to become a Bollywood heroine. However, the emergence of OTT platforms changed everything. Such platforms were nonexistent a decade ago, and I never anticipated that I would be participating in web series and receiving appreciation for my work," she reflects.
As a young artist depicted in the image
She commenced her career as a child artist, portraying male characters in several films, including Vaastu Shastra, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and My Friend Ganesha. Ahsaas recounts that there came a point when her mother decided to put an end to this practice, concerned that it might adversely affect a young girl's psyche. She explains, “I was always acutely aware of my identity as a girl. I was reminded on numerous occasions that I was merely acting and that the roles I played were fictional. While attending school, I lived my life as Ahsaas, fully cognizant that my performances were confined to the camera. However, as I approached my teenage years, my mother felt it was crucial to avoid any potential confusion during my puberty. It was an opportune moment for me to cease those roles, take a hiatus, and eventually return.”
Ahsaas expresses her aspiration to enter mainstream Bollywood soon, fulfilling her long-held dream of becoming a 'Hindi film heroine.' "That dream has always existed," she remarks with a smile. Unlike many skeptics, the young actress perceives her identity as an OTT star and her background as a child actor as no hindrance to her ambitions. "I do not view any of this as a disadvantage. It will only serve to enhance my opportunities. Some argue that being overly visible diminishes one's freshness, but I contend that visibility is essential for success. With numerous projects, audiences can now recognize my capabilities as an actor and make casting decisions based on my talent," she concludes.
