A horror comedy that united a filmmaker known for his successful horror action thriller, Karvva, with a lead actor celebrated for his comedic talent, Choo Mantar generated considerable interest. Directed by Navneeth and featuring Sharan in the principal role, the film was initially scheduled for release on April 5, but this date was subsequently postponed to May 10. However, as neither of these dates was met, the production team opted to refrain from announcing a new release date until they had everything properly organized.
Exclusive! Sharan: The portrayal of exorcism in Choo Mantar will be a fresh experience for Kannada audiences.
The initial delay was implemented to allow for the release of Sharan’s film Avatara Purusha 2 on April 5. The subsequent postponement was attributed to technical difficulties; however, sources informed OTTplay that the primary concern was related to finalizing pre-release business arrangements. After more than six months of preparation, the team behind Choo Mantar appears to be ready to present the film in cinemas. A teaser and announcement regarding the release date are anticipated on December 9.
Sharan’s Choo Mantar has received its censorship approval, and the runtime for this horror-comedy has been disclosed. In preparation for an earlier release, the film was granted a U/A certification and has a total runtime of 2 hours and 22 minutes. According to Sharan, the film features him as a priest, alongside Aditi Prabhudeva and Chikkanna, who portray modern-day exorcists. Their mission involves addressing supernatural occurrences in the residence of an NRI couple, played by Prabhu Mundkur and Meghana Gaonkar. While Sharan's films are typically characterized by humor, he has indicated that Choo Mantar will focus more on horror elements.
Sharan’s last release was Avatara Purusha 2, a sequel that was also plagued by several delays. The film, though, tanked at the box office. The actor was also to do a film with Puksatte Lifeu director Aravind Kuplikar, but sources suggest that the project’s been put on hold. Aravind will be seen as an actor in Nimitta Matra, directed by Roshan D’Souza.
