After Criticizing Blake Lively, Comedian Hannah Berner Turns Her Attention to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

Comedian Hannah Berner commenced the new year with a series of roasts, experiencing a taste of her own medicine after a fallout with Taylor Swift's fans. The alum of Summer House hosted Netflix’s Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year, where she first commented on America’s fascination with Luigi Mangione. Describing the 26-year-old, who has been charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, as “so hot right now,” the 33-year-old stand-up comedian quickly directed her humour towards Taylor Swift’s NFL star boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
“Who knew, apart from Travis Kelce, that one could gain such popularity with women by engaging in relations with a billionaire?” she jested during the Netflix special, which debuted on December 27, 2024. The online premiere garnered significant attention over the past week, prompting more Swifties to engage with the trending joke, which did not sit well with the pop star’s supporters. Mangione, who gained notoriety through viral fame, had many admiring his appearance. However, this time, he took a back seat as Taylor Swift became the focal point of the discussion.
Taylor Swift fans riled up after ‘sexist’ joke
As footage of Berner's segment accumulated views on X, one user criticized her comment as "highly sexist and demeaning." Another individual condemned the comedian for expressing "such ease in making the most sexist remarks." A further commenter stated, "This is simply an outright repugnant misogynistic attitude presented by amateurs masquerading as humour to gain approval from certain types of individuals." Additionally, another person remarked, "Stand-up comedians seem unable to be humorous without resorting to misogyny."
A distinct group of X users rallied in support of Hannah, attributing the backlash to others' inability to appreciate a "joke." One individual remarked, "It’s a roast. What did you anticipate? Family-friendly comedy?" However, the prevailing sentiment across social media was that Berner was targeting another woman with remarks that were deemed "profoundly sexist and degrading" to "appeal to men."
Hannah Berner previously came under fire for aiming at Blake Lively amid Justin Baldoni's complaint
Her "sexist" joke regarding Taylor Swift's relationship with Travis Kelce surfaced over a week after she became the centre of a heated online debate for targeting Blake Lively during the same roast performance. After referring to the Gossip Girl star as a "c**t," Berner faced significant backlash on social media, particularly as this comment coincided with the time when Lively had recently lodged a sexual harassment complaint against Justin Baldoni, the director and co-star of It Ends With Us.
Subsequently, Berner sought to clarify her remarks, stating that her performance was recorded before the revelation of Lively's allegations against Baldoni. "To be 100 per cent clear, I support Blake xoxo," the Bravo alum expressed on her Instagram Stories.
