In a shocking incident, Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman made a big announcement about his divorce from his wife Saira Banu. The couple ended their long relationship after 29 years of togetherness. Just a few hours after this announcement, Rahman's long-time collaborator Mohini Dey, a celebrated bassist also shared the news of her separation from her husband, Mark.
In a statement shared by Mohini Dey, she mentioned that the decision to part ways with her partner was mutual. Their statement read: “Dear friends, family, fans, and followers, With a heavy heart, Mark and I announce that we have separated. First, as a commitment to our friends and family, this is a mutual understanding between us. While we remain great friends, we both have decided that we want different things in life and separation through mutual agreement was the best way to proceed.”
Their statement also mentioned that they will continue to collaborate professionally in the future. "Please honor the decision we have made by being positive towards us at this time and respecting our privacy. We would appreciate no judgements,” they added.
Dey's announcement came just a few hours after AR Rahman's statement and it has surprised fans. Although this might be unrelated, Mohini's post focussed on the importance of positivity and love so did Rahman and Banu's post. For the uninitiated, Mohini Dey has performed with AR Rahman in over 40 shows worldwide and released her self-titled debut album in August 2023.
Meanwhile, AR Rahman and Saira Banu tied the knot in 1995 in an arranged marriage. They have two daughters Khatija and Raheema, and a son Ameen. The couple announced about ending their marriage on November 19 and shared the same on their social media accounts. The couple cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation.
