Severance is making its return with season 2 after a three-year break! This new season jumps right into the gripping and suspenseful atmosphere of Lumon's Severed Floor, continuing from where we last left off. Adam Scott mentioned that the opening scene of the premiere is super exciting, and he even took some cues from Tom Cruise's legendary action scenes to amp up the intensity.
Adam Scott opens up
Adam recently made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he gave fans a sneak peek of Season 2's opening shot. In it, his character is seen sprinting through Lumon’s unsettling white hallways. He mentioned that he drew inspiration from Tom Cruise’s legendary running style.
Adam remarked, “He’s the best runner out there. You’ve got to get those blade hands and lift your knees. Plus, he always runs in clothes that aren’t exactly comfy, so I was in a suit and dress shoes, running a ton. It took nearly five months to film that scene — on and off for five months. That was all thanks to Ben Stiller, and we even had our own little wrap party when we finally wrapped up the running part.”
In a recent chat with Rotten Tomatoes shared on Threads, Adam said, “I trained by studying Tom Cruise and his techniques. Ben and I discussed Tom a lot while filming because he’s the absolute best at running in outfits that aren’t meant for it, and I was stuck in a suit the whole time.”
It also came to light that Adam had become quite observant on set, especially when it came to gearing up for intense scenes. Ben noted that Adam had even caught on to a subtle cue, a "tell," that indicated when he should get ready for those high-energy hallway runs.
The opening scene of Season 2, titled ‘Hello, Ms. Cobel,’ took about four to five months to shoot, mainly due to scheduling challenges, as Ben explained.
"I think there are around 10 different segments in it. Each one had its own requirements for the set. There was one where we had to do everything with a green screen, and I had to be on a treadmill while a motion control camera moved around me to capture all the action,” Ben shared on the podcast.
Here's the scoop on the show
After almost three years since its intense season one finale, Severance is finally back with its second season, streaming on Apple TV+. This dystopian show features Adam Scott as Mark Scout, a widower who goes through a procedure to be “severed,” which means he can't access his work memories and vice versa. He’s part of the enigmatic Lumon Industries alongside Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Helly (Britt Lower). The new season kicks off after the events of what’s called the “Microdat Uprising.”
The cast also includes Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, and Dichen Lachman. Created by Dan Erickson and produced by Ben Stiller, this Apple original series has 10 episodes in its second season, which premiered on January 17. New episodes will drop weekly, with the season finale set for March 21.
