Manoj Bharathiraja, an actor and the son of renowned filmmaker Bharathiraja, passed away on Tuesday evening, leaving the Tamil film industry in shock. He experienced a heart attack around 6 PM and succumbed to it at his home in Chennai.

Manoj Bharathiraja, a prominent figure in the Tamil film industry and the son of esteemed filmmaker Bharathiraja, passed away on Tuesday evening due to cardiac arrest. He was 48 years old at the time of his death. Manoj's most recent appearance was in the Tamil web series "Snakes and Ladders," which premiered in 2024.

Manoj Bharathiraja served as an assistant to his father but chose not to pursue a directorial career like him. Instead, he made his acting debut in the 1999 Tamil film Taj Mahal, which was directed by Bharathiraja. The film featured notable actors such as Riya Sen, Revathi, Radhika, and Ranjitha, with a screenplay by Mani Ratnam. Although it provided Manoj with a significant opportunity to launch his career, the film did not perform well at the box office. Following this, he appeared in several Tamil films, including Samudhiram, Alli Arjuna, Maha Nadigan, and Eeswaran. He also collaborated with actors Silambarasan and Karthi in the films Maanaadu and Viruman, respectively.

Manoj is survived by his wife Ashwathi and two daughters. Arshitha and Mathivadhani. His demise came as a shocker to the film industry, who have been pouring in their condolences.

Manoj Bharathiraja’s OTT debut Snakes and Ladders

Manoj marked his entry into the OTT space with the web series Snakes and Ladders, which stands as the final project featuring the late actor. This series, produced by Karthik Subbaraj, can be streamed on Prime Video.

The show is the brainchild of creators Kamala Alchemis and Dhivakar Kamal, with direction by Ashok Veerapan, Bharath Muralidharan, and Kamala Alchemis. The narrative centers on a group of school-aged children entangled in a network of criminal activities.
