Singer Udit Narayan recently got caught up in some drama after a video of him kissing a female fan on the lips went viral online. In a recent chat with News18, fellow singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya stepped up to back him, sharing his own experience of going through something similar.

Abhijeet stands up for Udit Narayan

Abhijeet came to Udit's defense, saying, “Udit is a superstar singer, and stuff like this happens to us all the time. If we don’t have proper security or bouncers around, people can get a bit too hands-on. I’ve been there myself. When I was just starting out, I had a concert in South Africa where a few girls kissed me on the cheek so aggressively that I couldn’t even get back on stage. And it all went down right in front of Lata ji! I ended up with lipstick marks all over my face.”

He went on to say that his wife usually travels with him for concerts, adding, “He’s Udit Narayan! Girls were all over him, and he didn’t pull anyone in. I’m pretty sure his wife is always there as a co-singer when he performs. Let him enjoy his fame! He’s a romantic singer and a real charmer, while I’m just a novice. So, don’t even think about trying to mess with him.”

Let's talk about the debate

In a viral clip, Udit is seen sharing kisses with female fans while performing his hit song Tip Tip Barsa Paani from the 1990s. One particular video making the rounds shows him asking security to let a fan snap a selfie with him. As she got closer for the picture, she leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek, and he responded by tilting his head and kissing her on the lips. This moment stirred up quite a bit of controversy online.

In light of the backlash, Udit spoke to HT City, stating, "Fans can be really passionate. But we’re not like that; we’re decent people. Some folks show their love in these ways. Why make such a fuss about it? There are tons of people in the crowd, and we have bodyguards around. Fans feel like they’re getting a chance to connect with us—some reach out for a handshake, some kiss our hands… it’s all part of their devotion. It doesn’t need to be blown out of proportion."
