Abdulaziz “HAX$” Al-Yami passed away on Tuesday at the age of 30, leaving the gaming community in mourning. He was celebrated as one of the most talented players of Super Smash Bros. Melee. Although the circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, his family disclosed in a post on his X account that he had been “fighting for his life.” The post also contained a link to a fundraiser, where his parents confirmed his passing.

Al-Yami's GoFundMe campaign, titled “In Memory of Abdulaziz ‘HAX$’ Al-Yami,” has successfully raised $46,211 towards its $65,000 target as of the current date. The fundraiser's description states, “REST IN PEACE MY DEAR SON. Abdulaziz ‘HAX$’ Al-Yami. He LOVED Melee.” The announcement notes his passing at 7:09 AM on March 25, 2025.

The family of the professional gamer shared in the description that he “passed away peacefully this morning.” They expressed gratitude to his friends and fans for their support, stating, “I would like to personally thank all of his friends and fans who supported him and gave him so much happiness. Please say a prayer for this young man who was taken away from us too soon. Doctors said he died quietly. Thank you for your compassion.”

Al-Yami reportedly faced mental health challenges for several years. Despite his remarkable career as a professional player in Super Smash Bros. Melee, he was banned from competitions in 2021, according to FandomWire. In 2013, he achieved a ranking as the 6th best player globally on the SSBMRank, and by 2019, he was ranked 19th, as reported by Event Hubs.

Following the confirmation of his passing, HAX's fans took to social media to express their condolences. Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, a Twitch streamer and fellow champion in Super Smash Bros., posted on X, “RIP Hax :( I wish I could have done more. He often shared with me how sad he felt in recent years. I’m at a loss for words right now; he was an exceptional individual and a legendary gamer who deserved more. I hope he is in heaven and finds happiness.”

Mew2King also shared the conversation he had with Al-Yami's mother in an X post that read, “i spoke to hax's mom, she thanked me for being a good friend towards aziz, he spoke of me often. I asked cause of death... it was a “broken heart, he cried a lot towards the end, and most people didn't understand how much he loved being a gamer, it was his passion in life” :/”

Another SSBM world champ, who goes by hungrybox on X, wrote, “I wanted to keep it private but I just landed in New York not even 5 minutes ago to go visit Hax in the hospital. He passed away while I was in the air. I don’t know what to say. I wanted to say goodbye in person I’m so sorry Aziz Please rest easy for us in heaven.”
