Aamir Khan’s Old Critique of AIB Roast Resurfaces Amid ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy
1 month ago | 5 Views
Is the recent controversy surrounding India's Got Latent not reminiscent of past events? It bears a striking resemblance to the notorious AIB roast involving Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor that occurred a decade ago. The shocking humor and subsequent backlash highlight that little has changed over the years. This sentiment was echoed by many online after a resurfaced interview featuring Aamir Khan, where he shared his views on 'violent comedy.'
Back to 2015 Roast
In 2015, a group of comedians, along with Karan Johar, humorously targeted Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor during a high-profile event in Mumbai. The jokes made references to their romantic relationships, less-than-stellar careers, and even their sexual orientation, prompting outrage among many viewers. This led to numerous complaints, threats, and ultimately, the removal of the video from YouTube.
While some advocated for freedom of expression, others argued that the language used during the roast was disrespectful to 'Indian culture.' Aamir Khan also weighed in on the matter during the Youth for Governance 2015 event, labeling the roast as unamusing. He stated, "When Karan and Arjun Kapoor informed me about their remarks and actions during the roast, I perceived it as a violent event. I firmly support freedom of speech, but violence can manifest in various forms, including emotional and verbal. When you insult someone, you are perpetuating violence."
He acknowledged the roast's popularity among younger audiences but maintained, "Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Personally, I did not find it humorous. I have matured beyond the point of finding amusement in insults. I expressed my disapproval to both Karan and Arjun, who are my friends, and conveyed that I did not find it funny at all."
"If you wish to impress me, aim to make me laugh without resorting to insults. That would be enjoyable. I am not referring specifically to AIB, but to Arjun, Karan, and the other performers at the event... As a creative individual, I believe it is my duty to seek out the positive aspects in people," he concluded.
Aamir Khan, following the debates surrounding his film PK, expressed his disapproval of the consequences and reactions elicited by the show. He stated, "I am uncertain whether any laws have been violated. However, I observe a significant amount of public outrage directed towards them, which I do not endorse. If I disapprove of your actions, I believe it is my responsibility to communicate my concerns directly, and that should suffice. It is not my place to dictate how you should behave."
What's happened now?
In recent developments, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely recognized as BeerBiceps, faced backlash after his remarks regarding parents and sex during comedian Samay Raina's YouTube reality show 'India's Got Latent' gained traction on social media.
Subsequently, Allahbadia issued an apology for his "lapse in judgement" and requested the show's producers to eliminate the contentious segment.
