At the trailer launch of his son Junaid Khan's forthcoming romantic comedy, Loveyapa, Aamir Khan announced that he has ceased smoking. He expressed that although he had been contemplating giving up this detrimental habit, he believed that the present moment was particularly opportune for such a decision.

When Aamir was worried if he could smoke in front of Amitabh Bachchan

During a 2018 interview with Mid-Day, Aamir Khan recounted his concerns about whether he could smoke in the presence of his Thugs of Hindostan co-star, Amitabh Bachchan, while on the set of Vijay Krishna Acharya's period action thriller. For guidance, he sought the counsel of Shah Rukh Khan, who was also known for his smoking habit at the time. Shah Rukh had collaborated with Amitabh in two successful films: Aditya Chopra's 2000 romantic drama, Mohabbatein, and Karan Johar's 2001 family drama, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

“Shah Rukh advised me, 'Amit ji is understanding; you can smoke in front of him. If he reprimands you, just run away.' Before I knew it, Amit ji and I were watching Wonder Woman during the shoot in Malta, and he remarked, 'I heard you asked Shah Rukh if you could smoke in front of me.' I was taken aback. However, Amitji was quite relaxed,” Aamir shared. The filming of Thugs of Hindostan took place in Italy, produced by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films, and featured Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

Why Aamir has quit smoking now

Regarding his decision to quit smoking, Aamir stated, “I am pleased to announce that I have given up this harmful habit. I encourage anyone watching or listening to do the same, as it is not beneficial. I felt it was necessary to quit, especially with my son's career beginning. I made a personal vow. I am quitting, regardless of whether Junaid Khan's next film succeeds or not; I am taking this step for myself. As a father, I wanted to make a sacrifice. I hope it has a positive impact somewhere in the universe,” Aamir expressed at the Loveyapa trailer launch in Mumbai.
