Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India's official submission for the Oscars. Following its release, the film received acclaim for its exceptional performances, compelling narrative, and direction. In a recent interview, Aamir Khan, the film's producer, discussed the importance of winning an Oscar for India. He expressed that the nation would react with great enthusiasm if it were to secure the esteemed Academy Award.

In a recent discussion with BBC News India, Aamir Khan expressed his thoughts on the possibility of winning an Oscar for his film Lapataa Ladies. He conveyed that while he would be genuinely pleased by such an achievement, he does not regard competitions with excessive seriousness. Aamir emphasized that winning an Oscar presents a remarkable opportunity for a film.

"It would create tremendous opportunity for the film to be seen by a lot more people because when a film wins an Oscar or Academy award, then people from around the world want to see what it’s like. So it opens a huge window of opportunity for a larger audience for a film," Aamir stated.

Aamir elaborated on the fervent passion that Indians have for cinema, expressing that there is a strong desire for an Indian film to secure an Academy Award. He believes that the nation would react with immense enthusiasm, as this achievement has yet to occur. He stated, "Indians possess an extraordinary enthusiasm for films, and we have longed for an Indian film to win an Academy Award, which has not yet taken place. Therefore, the country would erupt with joy. The excitement would be overwhelming if we were to win. For the sake of our people, I would be truly delighted if we achieved this honour."

SS Rajamouli's RRR previously secured the award for Best Original Song, while Guneet Monga's Elephant Whisperers received the accolade for Best Documentary Short. The shortlist for the Oscars 2025 is set to be revealed on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, and there are high expectations among fans for Laapataa Ladies.
