He expressed that if Laapataa Ladies were to secure the Academy Award, it would cause an overwhelming reaction among the people in India.

When Aamir Khan inquired about the significance of winning an Oscar for India, he stated, "I am uncertain about the seriousness of competition. However, I would feel immense joy. It would provide a remarkable opportunity for the film to reach a much wider audience, as winning an Oscar or an Academy Award tends to attract viewers from across the globe who are curious to see the film. This creates a substantial opportunity for broader exposure."

He also expressed his thoughts on the potential reaction of Indians if Laapataa Ladies were to win an Oscar, saying, "More importantly, I believe that Indians are incredibly passionate about films, and we have longed for an Indian film to secure an Academy Award, which has yet to occur. The nation would erupt with excitement. People would go wild if we were to win. For the sake of our country’s people, I would be truly delighted if we achieved this honour."

In India's cinematic history, only three films—Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan—have received nominations in the International Feature category, yet none have secured an Oscar. Recently, I was awarded the Best Original Song, and Elephant Whisperers received the Best Documentary Short award. Writing with Fire and All That Breathes were also nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category. Expectations are now high for Laapataa Ladies. The shortlist for the Oscars 2025 is set to be revealed on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Aamir Khan is set to appear next in the film Sitaare Zameen Par, featuring Darshal Safary and Genelia Deshmukh alongside him. The release of this movie is planned for 2025 in theatres.
