Aamir Khan is presently engaged in promoting his production, Laapataa Ladies, which has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025. In a recent interview with BBC News, the actor discussed his aspirations to produce additional films, support emerging talent, and his ambitious project, Mahabharata.
Aamir Khan on doing one film a year
In response to inquiries regarding his future plans, Aamir Khan expressed, "My intention is to produce a greater number of films and provide opportunities for emerging talent. I will also persist in my acting career. Typically, I undertake one film every two to three years; however, in the upcoming decade, I aspire to complete one film annually. I look forward to producing numerous films that resonate with the stories I am passionate about."
Aamir Khan on his dream project Mahabharata
Aamir Khan elaborated on his aspiration to create a film centred around the Mahabharata, expressing, "This is my dream project, and it is indeed a daunting endeavour. The scale is immense, and I fear the possibility of misrepresenting it. It carries significant weight, as it resonates deeply with us as Indians; it is ingrained in our heritage. Therefore, I am committed to ensuring its accuracy. My goal is to instil pride in every Indian and to showcase India's rich culture to the world. While I am uncertain if this project will materialize, it is a pursuit I am eager to undertake. We shall see what unfolds."
In 2018, writer Anjum Rajabali informed the media that Aamir Khan was dedicated to the ambitious concept of producing a high-budget film inspired by the Mahabharata. Notably, that same year, he withdrew from the Rakesh Sharma biopic to focus on this project, which was speculated to have a budget of ₹ 1000 crore.
In the meantime, Aamir Khan has taken a hiatus from acting following the underwhelming performance of his last film, Laal Singh Chaddha, at the box office. He is now preparing for his return with the film Sitaare Zameen Par, which features Aamir, Darsheel Safary, and Genelia Deshmukh in prominent roles. Directed by RS Prasanna, this sequel is inspired by the 2018 Spanish film Champions. The film is currently in post-production and is anticipated to be released in 2025.
