Aamir Khan has expressed his disapproval of certain films that propagate a chauvinistic portrayal of masculinity. In a recent interview, the actor stated that he does not support patriarchy, as it regresses societal progress by decades. Additionally, it has been reported that Aamir Khan and Emily Blunt will receive honours at the Red Sea Film Festival, with notable speakers including Ranbir Kapoor and Andrew Garfield.

Aamir Khan shares his thoughts.

In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Aamir Khan addressed the portrayal of masculinity in certain films that promote a more chauvinistic perspective. When asked for his thoughts on this issue, he responded, "It is unfortunate. Such representations set us back by a decade, which is disheartening. I wish we could avoid this, but it is a reality we face. Each individual holds their views, and opinions vary widely. Many people openly support patriarchy, while others do so in more subtle ways. This is a challenge we must confront."

Aamir has frequently utilized narratives to highlight critical issues, including domestic violence and abusive relationships, as seen in films like Secret Superstar and Laapataa Ladies. He believes that although society has made strides, remnants of patriarchal attitudes persist.

"These issues will not vanish instantly. They are deeply entrenched beliefs. Many men experience significant insecurity. We exist in a patriarchal culture where numerous men feel entitled to dictate the level of independence afforded to women in their lives. This is troubling, yet I am optimistic that change will occur gradually. Stories possess the power to transform people's perspectives. While logical arguments can persuade to an extent, emotional engagement through storytelling and relatable characters resonates with individuals on a deeper level," he elaborated.

Aamir Khan is set to receive a distinguished accolade.

Aamir Khan is set to receive an accolade at the Red Sea Film Festival. Scheduled to occur from December 5 to 14 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the 2024 festival will also honour other distinguished figures in global cinema, including Oscar-nominated actress Emily Blunt and renowned Egyptian actress Mona Zaki.

Aamir conveyed his appreciation for this recognition, remarking, "Cinema has been my lifelong passion, and to be amidst such an inspiring group of artists from across the world is truly humbling," according to Deadline.
