Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman has responded to singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya's accusations that he is to blame for the decrease in live instrumentation and the excessive reliance on technology in music.
In a recent chat with ANI, Abhijeet criticized Rahman for not respecting other artists and for sidelining instrumentalists with his tech-driven approach to music production. He also pointed fingers at Rahman for the current trend in the music industry, where most work is done on laptops, leaving traditional musicians without jobs.
AR Rahman's newest endeavor
Rahman has come forward to defend himself, saying that while Abhijeet is entitled to his opinions, he doesn't agree with the statements made during an interview with India Today.
"It's easy for people to blame me for everything. I still care about Abhijeet and would even send him cakes. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and that's totally okay," Rahman said.
"I recently put together an orchestra of 60 women in Dubai. They get a monthly salary, health insurance, and other perks. In every project I work on, whether it's Chhaava or Ponniyin Selvan, I involve around 200-300 musicians, and some tracks have over 100 contributors. I don’t show off or post pictures with them, so many people don’t realize this," he added.
Rahman also pointed out that while he uses computers to create incredible harmonies, he can't just hire musicians and then ignore them later. He stressed that the producers he works with can verify the number of musicians he collaborates with.
AR Rahman's newest endeavor
Rahman's recent works include the Hindi film Chhava featuring Vicky Kaushal and the Tamil movie Kadhalikka Neramillai. He’s gearing up to create music for Aamir Khan's Lahore 1947, Mani Ratnam's Thug Life, and Aanand L Rai's Tere Ishq Mein. Additionally, Rahman will team up with the globally acclaimed musician Hans Zimmer for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayan.
