Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has been admitted to a hospital in Chennai following complaints of chest pain. According to a report by India Today, he is currently receiving treatment at Apollo Hospital on Greams Road.

The 58-year-old Rahman arrived at the hospital at 7:30 AM and has undergone several tests, including an ECG and echocardiogram. Hospital sources indicate that he may require an angiogram.

Last month, Rahman performed alongside Ed Sheeran at a concert in Chennai, and shortly thereafter, he attended the music launch for his film "Chaava."

Ex-wife Saira Banu was also ill recently

In related news, Rahman's ex-wife, Saira Banu, was recently hospitalized due to a medical emergency that necessitated surgery. Her lawyer, Vandana Shah, released an official statement regarding her health.

"On behalf of our client, Mrs. Saira Rahman, Vandana Shah and Associates provide the following update on her health status. A few days ago, Mrs. Saira Rahman was admitted to the hospital for a medical emergency and underwent surgery. During this difficult time, her primary focus is on a swift recovery," the statement shared on Instagram noted.

"She is sincerely grateful for the concern and support from those around her and requests prayers for her well-being from her many well-wishers. Mrs. Saira Rahman would also like to extend her heartfelt thanks to her friends in Los Angeles, Resul Pookutty and his wife Shadia, as well as Vandana Shah and Mr. Rahman, for their steadfast support during this challenging period. She is truly appreciative of their kindness and encouragement. God bless. Mrs. Saira Rahman also requests privacy during this time and expresses her gratitude for the understanding shown by her supporters and well-wishers," the statement continued.

Saira Banu and A.R. Rahman announced their separation on November 19, 2024, after nearly 29 years of marriage, citing "significant emotional strain" in their relationship as the reason for their decision.
