Actors Adrien Brody and Halle Berry revisited their memorable kiss from the 2003 Oscars during the red carpet event of the 97th Academy Awards. On Sunday evening, Halle encountered Adrien as the festivities of Hollywood's most significant night commenced.

Adrien and Halle Berry's viral kiss

Adrien Brody engaged with journalists on the red carpet on Sunday evening when he was approached by Halle Berry, who warmly embraced him. The pair then shared a kiss on the red carpet, observed by the gathered media.

Shortly thereafter, the Academy's official social media account shared the moment, captioning it: “A reunion 22 years in the making.” This nostalgic encounter harkened back to a memorable kiss shared by the two actors on the Oscars stage at the same location 22 years prior. The recent red carpet moment quickly gained traction online, with many drawing parallels to the iconic kiss from 2003.

The iconic 2003 kiss

In 2003, Brody made headlines when he kissed the Never Let Go, actress, while accepting his Oscar for Roman Polanski's The Pianist at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, which was previously known as the Kodak Theater and will also host the 2025 Academy Awards.

Berry, adhering to the tradition of the Oscars, presented the Best Actor award, a role typically filled by the previous year's acting winners who return to present the award for the opposite gender. In 2002, Berry made history by winning the Best Actress Oscar for Monster's Ball, becoming the first Black actress to achieve this honour.

"Tonight's recipient of the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor will undoubtedly be recognized as a significant figure, given the company he keeps," Berry remarked prior to announcing the 2003 nominees.

When Berry revealed Brody as the winner, he hurried to the stage, embraced her, and kissed her fervently for several moments. "I bet they didn't inform you that was included in the gift bag," he quipped to a surprised Berry, who then wiped her lips in astonishment.

This year, Adrien Brody has received a nomination for his role as Laszlo Toth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor, in Brady Corbet's The Brutalist. The 97th Academy Awards will be streamed live on JioHotstar in India.
