The 70th National Film Awards winners list is out. As anticipated by many, actor and director Rishab Shetty has bagged the Best Actor award at the 70th National Film Awards. It was announced by Government of India on Friday. Rishab Shetty won for the 2022 Kannada action thriller film Kantara.

Rishab Shetty wins National Film Award

The Press Information Bureau of the Government of India announced the list of 70th National Film Awards winners on Friday. Rishab Shetty bagged the Best Actor Award.

Apart from playing the lead role, Rishab Shetty has also written and directed the film. Kantara is backed by the Hombale Films production banner and is about a Kambala champion who is against a forest officer. Kantara was highly appreciated for its portrayal of Bhuta Kola artform, and went on to become the second highest-grossing films in India. The film also stars Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, and others. Kantara is available for streaming on Prime Video and Netflix.

Rahul Rawail, Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury; Nila Madhab Panda, Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury; and Gangadhar Mudalair, Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury, along with the respective jury members announced the winners' list.

A prequel called Kantara A Legend Chapter 1 has been announced by the makers. Since the time of its announcement, the buzz is that the prequel will throw light on the origin story of Panjurli daiva and Guliga, the protector deities as shown in Kantara A Folklore. The makers of Kantara had released the first look from the film, revealing Rishab as a fierce warrior avatar, with a trident in one arm and an axe in the other.

It is to be noted that the 2018 Kannada film Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai, which was written, directed and produced by Rishab Shetty, had won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film, at the 66th National Film Awards.
