70th National Film Awards: Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s Brahmāstra wins multiple honours

Brahmāstra, which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, has won multiple honours at the 70th National Film Awards that were announced on Friday. The Ayan Mukerji directorial adventure film, which released in 2022, has secured multiple wins, including in Best VFX and Best Playback Singer categories.

Brahmāstra wins big at National Film Awards

The Hindi film, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, has been secured the Best Film Award in the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic) category. Other than that, singer Arijit Singh has also been honoured with Best Playback Singer for ‘Kesariya' song from the film and Pritam secured the award for Best Music Direction.

It is a remarkable feat achieved by the adventure drama, after the massive box office success.  The film also starred Alia Bhatt, who had earlier won the Nation Award for Best Actress for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).  Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy also featured in pivotal roles in Brahmāstra.

The Ayan Mukerji directorial was announced way back in 2018, and finally came out in 2022. Now, it's been reported that Brahmāstra Part 2 will be coming soon with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh rumoured to be portraying the lead roles.

Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva on OTT

The film, which is currently the 5th most searched fantasy drama on Google, is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.

The story follows a young couple—Shiva and Isha, whose lives take a dramatic turn when they stumble upon a cryptic message, the key to unlock the secrets of the Brahmāstra, a celestial weapon filled with immense supernatural power.  Soon Shiva and Isha embark on a dangerous journey filled with numerous challenges, mythical creatures, and have to fight for survival.

Other National Award wins for Bollywood

Apart from Bhrahmāstra, the Hindi film Uunchai won two categories - Best Director Award for Sooraj Barjatya and Best Supporting Actress for Neena Gupta. Sharmila Tagore-starrer Gulmohar won the Best Hindi Film award. Arpita Mukherjee and Rahul V Chittela won the Best Dialogue Writer Award for Gulmohar, which also starred Manoj Bajpayee.
