The 70th National Film Awards were announced on Friday by the government of India. Nithya Menen won Best Actress award for her performance in Dhanush-starrer romantic drama Thiruchitrambalam. While the actor had performed well in the film helmed by Mithran Jawahar, many took to social media to point out how Sai Pallavi's acting in Gargi deserved the award.

Sai Pallavi headlined Gargi, a film that spoke about child sexual harassment and calling out the perpetrators even if they are closed ones. Sai Pallavi shouldered the film with her heart-wrenching performance in the film directed by Gautham Ramachandran.

Thiruchitrambalam stars actors Dhanush, Nithya Menen, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Raashii Khanna, Bharathiraja, Prakash Raj and others. The romantic drama follows Pazham, who is failed by love, and seeks solace in his best friend Shobhana. The film is available on SunNXT and is directed by Mithran Jawahar.
