The 70th National Film Awards were announced on Friday by the government of India. In Tamil, Ponniyin Selvan-1 won big at multiple categories, including Best Tamil Film and Best Composer for AR Rahman. Actor Nithya Menen won the Best Actress award for her performance as Shobhana in Thiruchitrambalam.

A section of social media pointed out their disappointment in actor Sai Pallavi not being awarded for her performance in the critically acclaimed film Gargi.

Nithya Menen won Best Actress award for her performance in Dhanush-starrer romantic drama Thiruchitrambalam. While the actor had performed well in the film helmed by Mithran Jawahar, many took to social media to point out how Sai Pallavi's acting in Gargi deserved the award.

Sai Pallavi headlined Gargi, a film that spoke about child sexual harassment and calling out the perpetrators even if they are closed ones. Sai Pallavi shouldered the film with her heart-wrenching performance in the film directed by Gautham Ramachandran.

Gargi and Thiruchitrambalam on OTTplay Premium

Gargi is 2022 social drama film, directed by Gautham Ramachandran. The film is available for streaming on SonyLIV. It stars Kaali Venkat, RS Shivaji, Saravanan, Livingston, Jayaprakash and Kavithalaya Krishnan, among others. The courtroom drama follows the case of a child sexual harassment, with Gargi’s father alleged to be one of the molesters. The film won appreciation upon its release with Sai Pallavi’s performance being one of the highlights.

Thiruchitrambalam stars actors Dhanush, Nithya Menen, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Raashii Khanna, Bharathiraja, Prakash Raj and others. The romantic drama follows Pazham, who is failed by love, and seeks solace in his best friend Shobhana. The film is available on SunNXT and is directed by Mithran Jawahar.
