Ali shared that his filmmaking career, which commenced with his directorial debut Socha Na Tha (2005), has been immensely rewarding. He expressed that he never anticipated reaching this point, engaged in such captivating projects while earning a living from them. The kindness and generosity he has experienced from strangers in the industry have led him to feel incredibly fortunate.

Amar Singh Chamkila his highly acclaimed and popular release in 2024 marked a significant milestone in his career. In addition to the recent theatrical re-releases of Jab We Met and Rockstar (2011), his 2014 film Highway is set to be re-released this week, further heightening his enthusiasm.

Alia Bhatt's casting in Highway

Regarding Highway, which stars Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, Ali initially considered casting an actor with more experience and age. However, upon meeting Alia, he recognized her remarkable emotional maturity for her age, which added the necessary depth to her character, making the casting choice particularly striking.

At the time, producing a film that tackled complex themes such as Stockholm Syndrome was a daring decision. When asked about any hesitations or pushback he faced, Imtiaz noted that the response was overwhelmingly supportive. Ranbir Kapoor even encouraged him to prioritize Highway, despite his prior commitment to Tamasha (2015). Producer Sajid Nadiadwala shared a similarly positive outlook. Although the narrative was somewhat unconventional, it resonated with everyone involved. To embrace a more audacious approach, Ali realized the importance of managing production costs effectively.
