Actor John Abraham has conveyed his sense of national pride while responding to the claim that "minorities are not safe in India" during a recent interview. He strongly refuted this perspective, stating that he has always felt secure in the country.
John on being a minority in India
In an interview with Navika Kumar from Times Now, John was questioned regarding the ongoing discussion about the perception that "minorities are not safe in India."
In his response, John stated, "As an actor, some may argue that my opinions are influenced by my profession, suggesting that people may like or dislike me for various reasons. However, I identify as a minority; my mother is Zoroastrian, and my father is a Syrian Christian. Throughout my life, I have never felt safer than I do in my own country."
He continued, "I have a deep love for my country and feel a strong sense of security here. Those who use this issue as a means of condemnation—well, I am a living testament to the contrary. Perhaps I belong to a minority that is not contentious. I mean, who could possibly have an issue with the Parsis? Personally, I feel very secure in this nation and take immense pride in being Indian. In fact, I believe there is no one who embodies the spirit of India more than I do. I carry the Indian flag with pride wherever I go."
John back on the big screen
John Abraham returns to the screen in the action-thriller The Diplomat, inspired by a true story. Directed by Shivam Nair, known for his work on Naam Shabana, the film also features Sadia Khateeb in a prominent role.
The narrative centers around the real-life experience of Indian national Uzma Ahmad, who was repatriated to India in 2017 after reportedly being deceived by a Pakistani man. She disclosed that she was coerced into marriage at gunpoint and subjected to abuse during her visit to his country.
The film depicts the endeavors of senior diplomat JP Singh, portrayed by John, as he strives to rescue Uzma. It premiered in theaters on Friday.
