10 days ago | 5 Views
Did your previous relationship fail despite your consistent efforts in loyalty, commitment, and trust? This may have occurred because you overlooked the warning signs presented by your partner. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Aishwarya Kumar, a counselling and rehabilitation psychologist, stated, “Red flags are indicators that alert us to potential issues; they serve as warning signs of unhealthy behavioural patterns within a relationship.” Additionally, consider the question: Are you aware of your red flags? It is essential to learn how to recognize your toxic behaviours.
The psychologist also outlined several red flags that should not be disregarded.
All talk and no action:
A partner who relies solely on verbal commitments without taking any action may make numerous promises; however, they consistently fall short when it comes to fulfilling those commitments.
Consistently lying:
If you frequently observe them being untruthful about minor details, it is important to recognize that such behaviour often begins with small inaccuracies and can escalate into more significant falsehoods.
Love bombing:
Love bombing refers to the practice of overwhelming an individual with an abundance of affectionate gestures, which may include words of adoration, gifts, and assurances of a shared future. This behaviour creates a strong emotional attachment, but eventually, the affection may be withdrawn.

Silent treatment:
Effective communication is fundamental to any healthy relationship. It is crucial to express your thoughts to your partner, regardless of how challenging the subject may be. If, following a disagreement, your partner resorts to giving you the silent treatment, this should be considered a warning sign. Such behaviour indicates that the partner is completely withdrawing from the conversation and acting as if you are not there. This conduct can generate significant anxiety for the individual on the receiving end.
Gaslighting:
Gaslighting the partner is another major red flag. In this case, the partner is made to believe that whatever they are saying is not true and their reality is continuously questioned. This behaviour creates anxiety and stress as the partner might start doubting themselves and eventually start to lose confidence.
