She stated, "They serve as a signal. When an individual opts for a fleece onesie instead of embracing seduction, they are not placing importance on attraction. Instead, they are favouring convenience. This seemingly minor shift permeates every aspect of a relationship. Attraction flourishes in the presence of friction; it requires tension and contrast, as well as the delicate interplay of desire and restraint. Comfortable pyjamas eliminate these elements, replacing visual cues that spark attraction with something more subdued and secure."

Solution the pyjama problem

Does this imply that opting for comfortable sleepwear signifies the end of intimacy? Psychologist Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons, who is also a sexologist and professor, explained that visual and tactile sensations are the primary means of arousing a partner during sexual encounters. Therefore, donning sleepwear that your partner finds appealing can enhance your sexual relationship by heightening desire, while unattractive sleepwear may diminish the romantic spark.

She recommended that partners engage in a conversation about what types of pyjamas they find appealing by asking, “Choose something from my wardrobe that you consider sexy for me to wear to bed.” Each partner can then wear the selected attire on a designated night to assess whether it enhances their attraction to one another. If a positive change is observed, this practice can be incorporated into their routine.
