Chandy stated, "Cinderella Complex refers to a psychological condition where women harbor an underlying fear of independence and yearn for a 'knight in shining armor' to come to their aid. The term was introduced by Colette Dowling, who noted that women are often socialized from a young age to rely on others—especially men—to fulfill their needs. This perspective is deeply rooted in an idealized view of femininity, which suggests that women should be courteous and supportive of others while being fundamentally incapable of self-sufficiency or altering their situations through personal effort. Instead, they are conditioned to believe that their happiness and success hinge on being safeguarded and provided for by someone else, typically a man."
Roots of Cinderella Complex

Deepti noted that although caregivers may have ensured physical safety and provided psychological support, emotional needs frequently went unaddressed—especially in cases of authoritarian or helicopter parenting, where control and obedience took precedence over emotional expression and autonomy. Over time, this emotional conditioning can lead to the development of the Cinderella Complex, wherein an individual subconsciously anticipates being "rescued" instead of cultivating their own sense of agency. This dependency can create excessive strain on relationships and hinder personal development both within those relationships and beyond.
