Relationship coach Jillian Turecki emphasizes that a healthy and secure relationship can only flourish when partners prioritize one essential element: communication. In a recent post, she candidly addressed the realities of relationships and underscored the significance of effective communication. Additionally, she elaborated on the necessity of engaging in difficult conversations to ensure the strength and vitality of the partnership.

A hard truth about relationships

In her post, Jillian emphasized that establishing a secure relationship with a partner or loved one is impossible without effective communication. The relationship coach noted that we foster a sense of safety for our partners through proper communication. She elaborated, “While relationships require more than just safety, the absence of it leads to anxiety rather than a genuine connection. Perfection in communication is not necessary; what is essential is the willingness to engage. This is a common need among all individuals, as communication breakdowns are often at the heart of many relationship issues.”

‘Have tough conversations’

She remarked that the significance of other aspects diminishes if we do not experience safety on physical, psychological, and emotional levels. Safety serves as the cornerstone of all healthy relationships. According to the relationship expert, she has come to understand over time that a nurturing love is rooted in trust and safety, which requires time to cultivate. It necessitates numerous shared experiences, challenging discussions, and a period to evaluate the degree of loyalty and respect present between partners.

Jillian emphasized that the initial year of a relationship is particularly delicate. Thus, being a secure partner involves open communication regarding needs, emotions, plans, and intentions. Ultimately, we all desire to be loved by our partners in a manner akin to the unconditional love of a parent.

"Nonetheless, a significant lesson I have learned about love as I have matured is that romantic love is often conditional. We cannot remain consistently moody, stressed, and uncommunicative while expecting our partner to feel secure with us," she concluded.
