Dr. Chandni Tugnait, a relationship expert for Tinder in India, mentioned, “Modern dating is all about changing the game. It’s not just about those old-school gestures anymore; it’s about genuine respect and authentic connections. Women today value mutual care over outdated traditions, seeking relationships that truly resonate with them.”

According to an in-app survey, Tinder India has pinpointed some key trends. Their Her New Dating Rulebook highlights these survey insights:

Respect is like the upgraded version of chivalry

The days of winning someone over with flashy gestures like opening doors or giving roses are behind us. Nowadays, it’s all about being present and engaged—whether that’s paying attention during a date or supporting each other’s goals. We’re seeing a shift away from old-fashioned gender roles, with authenticity and mutual respect taking the spotlight. Women are looking for partners who genuinely invest in building meaningful relationships.

According to a Tinder survey, 51% of young women believe that modern chivalry is all about keeping promises, like showing up on time or following through on plans, rather than just doing things like holding a door open. Additionally, 36% prefer having their date’s full attention—putting the phone down and really connecting—over those traditional gestures.

Respect for all genders and identities is also a big deal, with many expecting respectful language as a dating norm. For 36% of young women on Tinder, true modern chivalry includes a partner who backs their career ambitions. Plus, the idea that one person has to pay for the first date is becoming less important. It’s really about moving past outdated customs and focusing on genuine connections where effort and inclusivity matter most.

Safety has become the new norm

Women are changing the way they interact with dating profiles. They’re leaning towards verified accounts and clear photos. According to a Tinder survey, shirtless pics or blurry face shots are major red flags. In fact, 53% of women will pass on profiles that don’t have clear images for easy identification.

Also, about half of young women think that checking in after a date to make sure they got home safely is a real sign of care. Nowadays, safety and genuine thoughtfulness are key to forming meaningful connections in the dating scene.

Link and harmony

According to a Tinder survey, almost half of young women aren't fans of profiles that are half-finished. It shows they want to see some real effort and interest. Plus, 41% of them can't stand bios that are full of clichés; they really value originality and being genuine. For these users, a complete profile that shows true compatibility is way more important than just good looks.
