The findings indicate that children who experience greater levels of hugs and affection from their mothers during the ages of 5 to 10 tend to exhibit traits such as kindness, openness, and responsibility. To further validate these findings, researchers also conducted tests on identical twins, who share identical genetic material.

Childhood love matters

The findings indicated that the twin who experienced greater affection and more frequent displays of love through hugs developed into a more compassionate, caring, organized, and dependable individual. These characteristics align with significant personality traits such as openness, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. Additionally, there appears to be a cascading effect; individuals who exhibit high levels of these traits are more likely to secure better employment and cultivate stronger relationships. These traits are associated with tangible success in life, implying that the simple act of hugging can profoundly influence a child's future in ways that may not be immediately apparent.

Conversely, traits such as extraversion, which pertains to sociability, and neuroticism, which reflects levels of anxiety or emotional stability, did not exhibit significant changes. This observation suggests that these dimensions of personality may be more strongly shaped by genetic factors rather than parental influence.

The evidence suggests that parenting has a profound and enduring influence that extends beyond genetic factors. Parental love is a crucial element in the development of an individual's personality. Notably, variations in personality can also be observed among identical twins, reinforcing the significance of these findings. This indicates that even minor differences in parenting practices, such as the frequency of hugs, can significantly affect a child's future development.

While a hug may seem like a simple gesture, it can be pivotal in determining a child's trajectory in life, beginning with their personality and subsequently impacting their success in real-world situations.
