Eid ul-Fitr 2025: As Ramadan approaches its concluding week, Muslims around the globe look forward to Eid-ul-Fitr, the festive occasion that signifies the end of a month dedicated to fasting from dawn until sunset. Observed in various cultures and nations, Eid-ul-Fitr transcends mere religious significance; it embodies a worldwide celebration of togetherness, thankfulness, and benevolence. From the timing of moon sightings to the tradition of breaking fast with dates, here is everything you need to understand about this festival.
When is Eid 2025?
This year, Ramadan, a significant month in the Islamic calendar, commenced in India on Sunday, March 2, after the crescent moon was sighted on March 1. In contrast, Saudi Arabia observed the beginning of this sacred month a day earlier, on March 1.
Eid-ul-Fitr in India:
If the crescent is seen on March 30, Eid falls on March 31.
If not, it will be on April 1.
In Saudi Arabia:
Should the moon be sighted on March 29, Eid will be celebrated on March 30. If not, the celebration will take place on March 31. The Islamic calendar, which is based on lunar cycles, means that the official announcement of Eid-ul-Fitr will be made only after the crescent moon is observed.
