Eid 2025: Will the Crescent Moon Sighting Confirm March 31 or April 1 for India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh?

Eid-ul-Fitr is a celebration that goes beyond borders, uniting millions of Muslims in a joyful display of faith and festivities. From lively markets lit up with decorations to peaceful morning prayers in open courtyards, the spirit of Eid resonates around the globe. For many, it’s also a chance to reconnect with family, travel back to their hometowns, and strengthen those important family ties.
Unlike the fixed dates of the Gregorian calendar, the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, making the sighting of the new moon a key moment for determining the start of each month, including Shawwal, which kicks off with Eid-ul-Fitr. As a result, moon-sighting committees and similar organizations worldwide officially announce the date just before Ramadan wraps up each year.
Celebrations and family customs
Eid-ul-Fitr, commonly known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of the happiest events in the Islamic calendar. It marks a time for spiritual rejuvenation, family reunions, and strengthening community ties. As the first day following a month of fasting, Eid is celebrated with grand meals, fresh outfits, warm wishes, and acts of generosity.
One important tradition is Zakat al-Fitr, a charitable donation that helps ensure everyone, particularly those in need, can join in the festivities. Homes are filled with traditional goodies like sheer khurma, baklava, maamoul, and samosas, each dish rich in cultural meaning and fond memories.
As we get closer to Eid al-Fitr 2025, the excitement builds, creating a joyful atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a long weekend trip, having a meaningful family gathering, or just taking time to appreciate what you have, Eid serves as a wonderful reminder of life’s blessings and the strength of community.
Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 moon sighting date for India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh
This year, countries in South Asia like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, which usually start Ramadan a day later than Muslims in the Middle East and Western nations, will prepare to look for the crescent moon on March 30, 2025. This date marks the 29th day of Ramadan in the year 1446 AH.

If the moon is spotted in these South Asian countries on the evening of March 30, right after the maghrib prayers, Eid will take place on March 31. But if the new moon is seen, Ramadan will wrap up with 30 days, moving Eid to April 1, 2025.
An eagerly awaited holiday getaway
Eid holidays are a special opportunity for travel, unwinding, and spending quality time with family and friends. Many are busy planning staycations, family get-togethers, and festive celebrations. Whether you're heading to the beach, enjoying a lavish brunch, or having a cozy gathering at home, Eid 2025 is sure to bring plenty of joy and thankfulness.
As we look forward to the crescent moon shining in the night sky, let's welcome the essence of Eid with open arms, sharing love, kindness, and togetherness. Eid Mubarak!
