Chinese Lunar New Year 2025: Year of the Snake

The year 2025 is designated as the Year of the Snake. The Chinese zodiac operates on a 12-year cycle, represented by 12 distinct animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Consequently, individuals born in 2025 will be classified as Snakes. In Chinese tradition, snakes embody both positive attributes such as harvest, procreation, spirituality, and good fortune, as well as negative traits including cunning, malevolence, and threat.

According to Chinese cosmology, each year is linked to one of the five fundamental elements: gold, wood, water, fire, and earth, forming a 60-year cycle. Thus, 2025 is also recognized as the Year of the Wood Snake. The Wood Snake is characterized by charm, intelligence, and creativity, yet may also exhibit secretive, cunning, and at times ruthless tendencies. The previous occurrence of the Wood Snake year was in 1965.
