Gajar ka halwa is regarded as one of the most popular desserts in Indian households. This delightful sweet dish is a pudding made from carrots, enriched with substantial quantities of milk, sugar, cardamom, and water. It is a staple on the dinner table during festive occasions such as Diwali, Eid, and Navratri, often served after the main meal. Known for its widespread appeal, gajar ka halwa is simple to prepare and can be enjoyed with family and friends, regardless of the occasion.

Chef M Jenny Clinta, through the official Instagram account of her bakery and cake shop Sakaré, recently introduced a unique recipe for gajar ka halwa that has sparked mixed reactions among netizens. She presented a miniature version of the dessert, creatively served in small petri dishes as a palate cleanser.

In the video, she initially boiled the diced carrots in water before transferring them to a petri dish, where she enhanced the dish with toppings such as marshmallows and various other ingredients to elevate its flavour. The caption accompanying the post stated, “Our favorite from the last menu! Did you ever imagine that Gajar ka halwa could be so light and refreshing as a palate cleanser?”

How did the Internet react?

Gajar ka halwa is traditionally enjoyed as a dessert in substantial portions. Many online users expressed their dissatisfaction with the smaller versions, which consisted of merely three or four pieces of boiled carrot slices accompanied by minimal toppings. One user remarked, “When you ask ChatGPT for the recipe,” while another stated, “I believe you have overlooked the true meaning of the word ‘halwa.’ This is neither an inspiration nor an innovation; it is outright disrespect. Please refrain from doing this.”

Additionally, one user highlighted a technical error in the recipe, noting, “Technically, halwa refers to anything that is crushed; this resembles more of a Murabba.” Another Instagram user commented, “It would be best to leave some traditional dishes untouched. We do not require this unnecessary embellishment.”
