Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 3: The revered festival of Chaitra Navratri commenced on March 30 and will conclude on April 7. Each day of this Hindu celebration is devoted to the veneration of Maa Durga and her nine forms: Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmcharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandmata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri. According to Drik Panchang, the third day of this year's festival is specifically set aside for the worship of Maa Kushmanda.
Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 3: Who is Maa Kushmanda? What is the significance of her worship?
As per Drik Panchang, after embodying Maa Siddhidatri, Goddess Parvati took residence at the center of the Sun to release energy for the universe. From that moment, she became known as Maa Kushmanda, the Goddess endowed with the ability to dwell within the Sun. The brilliance and radiance of her form are comparable to that of the Sun itself.
The name Maa Kushmanda is derived from three components: "Ku," meaning little; "Ushma," meaning warmth; and "Anda," which refers to a cosmic egg. Hindu mythology narrates that a mere smile from Maa Kushmanda was sufficient to create the entire universe. She is also referred to as Ashtabhuja Devi due to her eight arms.
Maa Kushmanda rides a lion and holds a Kamandal, Dhanush, Bada, and Kamal in her right hands, while her left hands grasp an Amrit Kalash, Jap Mala, Gada, and Chakra. Adorned with red flowers during worship, she bestows her devotees with prosperity, health, and strength.

This hue represents passion and love, making it the most favored choice for the chunri or dupatta presented to the Goddess. Wearing red invigorates and energizes individuals. Consequently, it is recommended to don red attire during the Navratri festivities.
Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 3: Rituals and Offerings
Devotees are encouraged to rise early and take a bath prior to conducting the puja. They should sprinkle gangajal at the worship area. Given that Goddess Kushmanda has an affinity for the color red, all offerings should reflect this shade. Devotees should present red flowers, a red chunri, and Shringaar samagri, which includes items such as sindoor, kajal, bangles, bindi, toe ring, comb, mirror, and anklets. Additionally, a special bhog consisting of malpua, halwa, and curd should be prepared.
