Building a Healthy Relationship: Lifestyle Coach Shares 2 Key Things to Look For
8 days ago | 5 Views
Mel Robbins, a lifestyle coach and author, consistently provides valuable insights about life and relationships on her Instagram account. In a recent episode of the U Up? Podcast, she discussed strategies for fostering a healthy relationship with a partner.
On March 30, Mel posted a clip from the podcast on her Instagram, stating, “To cultivate a healthy relationship, these are the two key aspects you should prioritize.”
Being yourself
When examining enduring and successful partnerships, it becomes evident that only 11% of individuals experience an immediate spark and connection. The remaining 89% develop a gradual bond over time. Initially, the excitement and attraction can be exhilarating, but as time progresses, the focus shifts to feeling comfortable and authentic with one another. You no longer feel the need to wear makeup or worry about morning blemishes; instead, you can simply be at ease. The goal is to feel at home in the relationship. This gradual development allows individuals to recognize what truly matters in a partnership, moving beyond the superficial allure that often captivates us, as Mel expressed.
The little annoying things
Regarding minor irritations in relationships, Mel noted, “Nearly 70% of the things that annoy you will persist. They are unlikely to change. For instance, if your partner enjoys watching golf all weekend, that habit is here to stay. Similarly, if they snore at night or lack ambition at the moment, those traits may not alter. This is perfectly acceptable, as research indicates that there will always be aspects of a partner that can be bothersome. It is entirely possible to love someone deeply while still holding negative views about certain behaviors,” Mel elaborated.
Here’s how the Internet reacted
The response on the Internet was swift, with Mel’s post receiving a surge of likes and comments from her Instagram followers. Many users shared their thoughts, with one commenter stating, “People tend to idealize relationships to the point where they forget that it’s possible to love someone and still feel annoyed by them. You can be fully committed while finding certain habits exasperating. No relationship is flawless, and that’s perfectly normal. The key is to choose to navigate through the imperfections rather than ignore their existence.”
Another comment read, “Love isn’t about sculpting someone into an ideal; it’s about holding them gently, as they are—flaws, contradictions, and all. It’s understanding that even the deepest love can hold disagreements, and even the most beautiful souls have their shadows. But when we stop resisting who they aren’t and embrace who they are, love stops being something fragile to control and becomes something boundless to belong to.”
