Alopi Sankari Devi Shakti Peeth Temple, also known as Alopi Devi Mandir or Madhaveswari Temple, is a revered Hindu shrine located in Alopibagh, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. Situated near the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers—known as Triveni Sangam—the temple holds profound spiritual significance.

This temple stands out among the 51 Shakti Peeths due to its unique worship practices. Unlike other temples that house idols or images of deities, the sanctum sanctorum of Alopi Devi Mandir features a wooden cradle, locally referred to as a "doli" or "jhula," draped in red cloth. Devotees offer prayers to this cradle, believing it embodies the presence of the goddess. This distinctive form of worship has led to the temple's name, "Alopi," meaning "the one who disappeared," signifying the goddess's formless presence.

The temple's origins are steeped in mythology. According to ancient texts, following the self-immolation of Goddess Sati during the Daksha Yagna, Lord Shiva, overwhelmed by grief, carried her charred body across the cosmos. To alleviate his sorrow and restore cosmic balance, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember Sati's body, scattering her parts across various locations, each becoming a Shakti Peeth. At Prayagraj, it is believed that the fingers of Goddess Sati fell and immediately vanished into a water pool, leaving no physical remains. This event is commemorated by the worship of the symbolic cradle in the temple. 

An alternative legend speaks of a newlywed bride who miraculously disappeared from her palanquin when a marriage procession was attacked by robbers at this site. The locals, witnessing this divine intervention, began worshiping the empty palanquin, leading to the establishment of the temple.  

The temple's architecture is modest yet exudes a serene ambiance that attracts numerous devotees, especially during the Navratri festival. During this period, the temple becomes a hub of spiritual activities, with devotees participating in special prayers and rituals. The absence of a physical idol emphasizes the temple's unique approach to divinity, focusing on the intangible and formless aspects of the goddess.

Visitors to Alopi Devi Mandir often partake in traditional rituals such as tying a protective thread, known as a "raksha sutra," around their wrists while making a wish. It is believed that as long as the thread remains intact, the goddess's protection endures, and the devotee's wish will be fulfilled. Additionally, the temple hosts weekly gatherings, with significant congregations on Mondays and Fridays, where devotees come together to seek blessings and participate in communal prayers.
