David Fincher's biographical drama, The Social Network, tells the story of how Facebook was created. Recently, during a chat on Colin and Samir's podcast, Mark Zuckerberg shared his thoughts on the film, describing it as a "weird experience" to watch.

Mark Zuckerberg criticizes the storyline of The Social Network

Mark Zuckerberg shared that he took his whole team to see the movie, and when asked about his thoughts on it, he said, “It was strange, man. They got a lot of specific details about what I wore and other things right, but the overall story about my motivations was totally off.”

He went on to criticize the film’s storyline, saying, “The whole premise suggests I was driven by the need to find a girlfriend, but I was already dating Priscilla when I started Facebook. Plus, there’s this unfortunate trend online where people create a lot of myths about the origins of things to fit their narrative. Sure, I worked on a bunch of other websites while at Harvard, but people often link FaceMash, that prank I did, to Facebook just because it has ‘face’ in the name. They’re completely unrelated.”

Zuckerberg also mentioned that even after 21 years, the misconceptions about FaceMash continue, largely thanks to the movie. He pointed out that many think he created it as a way to rate people's looks, which he said is simply not true. He explained that he was just a kid trying out different projects back then.

The 2010 film is inspired by Ben Mezrich's 2009 book, The Accidental Billionaires. It features Jesse Eisenberg in the role of Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, alongside Andrew Garfield as Eduardo Saverin, Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker, Armie Hammer playing the Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler, and Max Minghella as Divya Narendra.
