Keerthy Suresh Honors Tradition by Wearing Her Mother's 30-Year-Old Saree at Her Wedding

Keerthy Suresh finally said "I do" to her longtime partner, Antony Thattil, after 15 years of love, in a gorgeous and cozy ceremony in Goa on December 20. The wedding photos were absolutely enchanting, and her bridal outfit beautifully mixed traditional and modern vibes. In a recent chat, she shared the touching story behind the eye-catching red saree she chose for her big day.
Keerthy Suresh's red bridal saree has a fascinating backstory
Keerthy opened up to Galatta India about her stunning red saree look, saying, “This saree actually belonged to my mom from her wedding, and I gave it a little makeover. Anita Dongre worked her magic on it, and it turned out amazing.” She also reminisced while looking at old photos of her mom rocking that same red saree from 30 years back.
When asked if wearing her mom's saree was always in the cards, Keerthy shared, "Actually, no. That idea came up pretty late in the game. I was originally supposed to wear a saree from the groom's side at first and then switch later. So, I needed two sarees, and my mom suggested I find something to wear initially. That’s when I spotted her saree and immediately asked if I could borrow it."
She went on to say that even though the saree is old, she had no second thoughts about wearing it. "It doesn’t matter how old it is or the quality—it's yours, and you wore it," Keerthy noted. She also gave a shoutout to her mom for keeping the saree in such great shape over the years.
