Alec Baldwin's spouse, Hilaria Baldwin, has disclosed that the actor considered taking his own life and expressed a desire to end his life following the tragic shooting incident on the set of his film Rust. This unfortunate event resulted in the death of the film's cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, after Alec Baldwin accidentally discharged a firearm containing a live round.

Alec Baldwin wanted to kill himself

In the latest episode of the Baldwin family's reality series, The Baldwins, Hilaria and Alec address the tragic shooting incident on the set of Rust. Released this week, the second episode features Hilaria discussing the profound effects the incident has had on Alec's well-being.

During a segment, Hilaria reflects on that fateful day, revealing, "I discovered some text messages between us from the day after. He expressed a desire to end his life."

The scene transitions to Hilaria speaking directly to the camera, where she elaborates, "He experiences survivor's guilt. He was part of an event that is beyond anyone's comprehension. He often revisits that day, wishing it had been him instead. He would gladly swap places in an instant. This ordeal has significantly impacted his physical and mental health. Over the past few years, he has unexpectedly developed heart issues and has been hospitalized several times." The series is broadcast on TLC in the United States.

The Rust shooting case

In 2021, Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer for the film Rust, tragically lost her life due to an accidental shooting involving a firearm held by actor Alec Baldwin. Although Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, the trial was ultimately dismissed in 2024. In January, Baldwin initiated a civil lawsuit against the prosecutors and investigators associated with the case, asserting that he was a victim of malicious prosecution and violations of his civil rights.

The lawsuit contends that these officials attempted to "scapegoat Baldwin for the actions and inactions of others," despite the absence of sufficient evidence to substantiate the charges.
