
Yamaha R15 Achieves Production Milestone: 10 Lakh Units Manufactured in India

The Yamaha R15 has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the production of 1 million units in India since its launch in 2008. The one-millionth unit was produced at the company’s Surajpur facility. Notably, Yamaha reported that 90 percent of these units have been sold within the Indian market.
Additionally, Yamaha emphasized that the R15 has played a crucial role in establishing the company as a prominent export hub for its new offerings, thereby enhancing its global footprint. Itaru Otani, Chairman of India Yamaha Motor Group of Companies, remarked that with each new version of the R15, the company has aimed to enhance the riding experience. He also expressed Yamaha's commitment to shaping the future of performance motorcycling, ensuring that the R15 continues to motivate riders for generations ahead.

The company currently offers two distinct models under the R15 nameplate: the R15 V4 and the R15S. Both motorcycles received updates earlier last year. The R15 V4 was equipped with a quick-shifter and introduced a new color scheme known as Intensity White. In contrast, the R15S features a new LCD display. Notably, both models comply with OBD2 standards.
The R15 V4, R15S, and MT-15 V2 are powered by the same 155 cc, liquid-cooled engine, which incorporates fuel injection and Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). This engine generates 18.14 bhp at 10,000 rpm and delivers a peak torque of 14.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The transmission is managed by a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a slip and assist clutch.
The starting price for the R15 V4 is ₹1.84 lakh, ex-showroom, while its maximum price reaches ₹2.11 lakh, ex-showroom. The R15S, offered in a single variant, is priced at ₹1.67 lakh, ex-showroom.

The R15, which was launched in 2008, showcased a liquid-cooled engine, a DiASil Cylinder, and a Deltabox frame, setting new benchmarks for performance and handling. The subsequent R15 V2.0, released in 2011, enhanced agility through the introduction of an aluminum swingarm and a more dynamic design, whereas the R15 S prioritized rider comfort. In 2018, the R15 V3 was unveiled, featuring a 155cc VVA engine, an Assist & Slipper Clutch, along with advanced elements such as inverted forks and LED lighting.
