The 2025 Yamaha YZF-R3 was first revealed to the world last October, and now there's news that an updated version has been patented in India. This suggests that Yamaha India is gearing up to launch the new model later this year. The 2025 R3 comes with a bunch of styling and feature enhancements, but it keeps the same engine and mechanics as before.

2025 Yamaha R3: What’s new?

The 2025 Yamaha R3 is here, sporting a bolder design on its full-faired model. The fairing has a sharper edge, and the front has been updated with new LED daytime running lights and a projector-lens headlight that’s cleverly placed within the air intake. Plus, the side fairings and tail section have both been revamped for a sleek new vibe.

The 2025 Yamaha R3 has a sportier design than the outgoing model. The new lighting and fairing as well as minor updates to the rear-end make the bike look more aggressive.

The 2025 Yamaha R3 sports a bolder look compared to the previous version. With revamped lighting and fairing, plus some tweaks to the rear, it definitely has a more aggressive vibe.

This new model also features a fresh LCD instrument panel that offers more info and Bluetooth connectivity. It comes with an assist and slipper clutch, but it doesn't have traction control, multiple ride modes, a quickshifter, or cornering ABS, which some rivals do offer. You can grab the updated bike in three colors: Matte Stealth Black, Team Yamaha Blue, and Lunar White/Nebula Blue.

The powertrain remains unchanged, so the new R3 still features that awesome 321 cc parallel-twin engine, cranking out 41.4 bhp and 29.5 Nm of peak torque, all paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Up front, it’s got KYB USD forks and a monoshock in the back, while stopping power comes from disc brakes on both ends, complete with dual-channel ABS.

For 2025, the Yamaha R3 gets a fresh LCD instrument console that includes Bluetooth connectivity, plus an assist and slipper clutch.

The current Yamaha R3 is sold as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), and it looks like the 2025 model will also be imported fully into India. However, we probably won’t see it hit Indian roads right away. It’s more likely to arrive towards the end of this year or in 2026. The timing will also depend on how much stock is left of the previous R3, which launched in India last year. Right now, it’s priced at ₹4.65 lakh (ex-showroom) and competes with bikes like the KTM RC 390, Aprilia RS 457, and Kawasaki Ninja 500.

Yamaha is set to launch the MT-09 and R7 middleweight bikes in India this year. Since they’ll be fully imported, expect the prices to be on the higher side compared to some competitors. These bikes were recently unveiled at the 2025 Auto Expo earlier this month.
