The anticipation surrounding the arrival of a Lamborghini electric supercar has been evident for some time. Initially, the Italian manufacturer announced that the unveiling would take place in 2028; however, the company's CEO has now indicated that this event has been postponed by one year. The Lamborghini Lanzador concept EV was presented in 2023, and the forthcoming production model will be derived from this concept.
As the first electric vehicle from Lamborghini, this model is among the most eagerly awaited launches of the decade. Despite ongoing debates among purists regarding the shift to electric, the trend towards battery-powered vehicles has inevitably extended to the realm of supercars. The question was never whether Lamborghini would go electric, but rather when it would happen. The announcement of their electric plans generated significant enthusiasm within the automotive community. According to Reuters, CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that the unveiling has now been rescheduled for 2029.
Winkelmann elaborated that the decision to delay the unveiling is aimed at ensuring the market is adequately prepared for the Lamborghini electric vehicle. He stated, "We do not think 2029 is late to have an electric car. We do not think that, in our segment, the market will be ready in 2025 or 2026."
Lamborghini hybrids vs electrics
Lamborghini has established a reputation for producing some of the most powerful sports cars globally since the 1960s. However, the introduction of its inaugural SUV raised skepticism regarding this strategic pivot. Nevertheless, the Lamborghini Urus has proven to be an extraordinary success, driving the Italian supercar manufacturer to unprecedented sales and profits. Additionally, the lineup now includes a hybrid version of the Urus, as well as the Lamborghini Temerario, which features a V8 twin-turbo engine combined with three electric motors. The Lamborghini Revuelto plug-in hybrid has also gained significant popularity since its launch in 2023.
While Lamborghini has emphasized its dedication to hybrid technology, a transition to fully electric vehicles is also anticipated. The Lanzador concept represents a step towards this future goal.
Unveiled last year, the Lamborghini Lanzador concept is a grand tourer designed with a 2+2 seating configuration. It is equipped with high-power electric motors on each axle, ensuring permanent all-wheel drive. The electric vehicle will incorporate e-torque vectoring on the rear axle, with Lamborghini projecting a peak power output exceeding one megawatt, approximately equating to 1,340 bhp. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the Lanzador will feature the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI), a sophisticated driving dynamics control system. This system will integrate multiple sensors and actuators to guarantee precise driving performance.
