A recent report by Spinny reveals a notable increase in the number of women purchasing cars, highlighting their growing confidence in owning vehicles.

The data indicates that women represented 26 percent of the customer base in 2024, a rise from 16 percent in 2023. By March 2025, this percentage soared to an impressive 46 percent, indicating a transformation in consumer behavior and societal attitudes. This trend marks the beginning of a new era in which women are not only operating vehicles but also instigating change within the industry.

What Women Want in a Car

The report highlights the preferences of female car buyers, revealing that 60 percent prefer automatic hatchbacks for their convenience. Additionally, compact SUVs are favored by 18 percent of women. The most popular car models among this demographic include the Renault Kwid, Hyundai Grand i10, and Maruti Suzuki Swift.

The highest concentration of female car purchasers is found in the Delhi-NCR region, accounting for 48 percent of women buyers, closely followed by Mumbai at 46 percent. In Bengaluru, women represent 41 percent of car buyers, while Pune has a figure of 39 percent.

Notably, non-metro cities like Lucknow and Jaipur are also experiencing growth, with a 20 percent increase in female buyers. The average age of women purchasing vehicles falls between 30 and 40 years, suggesting that young professionals are making autonomous automotive decisions to enhance their lifestyles.

The growing proportion of female car purchasers indicates a significant shift in societal dynamics, underscoring women's enhanced financial autonomy and their readiness to challenge conventional standards. As an increasing number of women engage in the automotive market, both in practical terms and in terms of influence, the industry is evolving to meet their needs, emphasizing trust, convenience, and tailored experiences in the car-buying process.
