Volvo has officially launched the ES90 in international markets. The Volvo ES90 is a fully electric vehicle that combines features of a sedan, fastback, and SUV. It is designed to strike a balance between sophistication, functionality, and performance, positioning itself as a versatile choice within the premium electric vehicle segment.

Volvo ES90: Design

The ES90 boasts a higher ride height, providing a more authoritative driving stance. Its sleek roofline is crafted for aerodynamic efficiency while ensuring spacious interiors. The front showcases Volvo’s iconic Thor’s Hammer headlight design, while the rear features unique C-shaped LED taillights that include a dynamic welcome and farewell light sequence. Customers can select from seven exterior color options and wheel sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches.

Volvo ES90: Interior and comfort

Within the cabin, Volvo prioritizes high-quality materials and ergonomic design. The 3.1-meter wheelbase offers generous legroom for rear passengers. A panoramic roof equipped with UV protection and an electrochromic feature allows for adjustable transparency. The vehicle includes a four-zone climate control system with an advanced air purifier capable of filtering 95 percent of PM 2.5 particulates and removing allergens.

To enhance the in-cabin experience, Volvo has concentrated on sound insulation, making the ES90 one of its quietest models. The premium audio system features a Bowers & Wilkins setup with 25 speakers, Dolby Atmos technology, and a mode that replicates the acoustics of Abbey Road Studios.

Volvo ES90: Performance and features

The ES90 marks the introduction of 800V technology in Volvo's lineup, significantly enhancing both efficiency and charging capabilities. It is capable of fast charging at rates of up to 350 kW, enabling the addition of 300 kilometers of range in roughly 10 minutes. The vehicle boasts a total WLTP-rated range of up to 700 kilometers. Constructed on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, it also features over-the-air update functionality, allowing for ongoing improvements in performance and safety features.

The infotainment system is managed through a 14.5-inch central display that includes integrated Google services such as Google Maps and Google Assistant. This system is powered by the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, ensuring smooth connectivity and providing a 3D 360-degree camera view to assist with parking.

Volvo ES90: Safety features

Safety is a paramount concern for Volvo. The ES90 is designed with a reinforced safety cage and is equipped with a comprehensive array of sensors, which includes five radars, seven cameras, and a lidar system developed by Luminar Technologies. The vehicle features a driver monitoring system that can identify when the driver’s attention is diverted from the road and can take action if necessary. Additional safety features include a warning system for cyclists when doors are opened and an occupant sensing system capable of detecting subtle movements, such as a baby's breathing, to prevent accidental entrapment.

Volvo ES90: Will it come to India?

Currently, the ES90 has been launched in select European markets, including Germany, France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. However, the manufacturer has indicated plans to broaden its availability to additional markets throughout 2025 and 2026.
