Volvo EX30 Set to Enter India: A Rival to BMW iX1 with Promising Features
15 days ago | 5 Views
The EX30 is Volvo's smallest electric SUV, coming in at 4.23 meters long, which is nearly 20 cm shorter than the XC40 Recharge. Despite its compact size, the EX30 offers a good amount of interior space, thanks to its relatively long wheelbase. Style-wise, it features all the classic Volvo elements. The front showcases a sleek design with a closed grille displaying the Volvo logo. The LED headlights sport that iconic Thor hammer shape, and the rear lights elegantly wrap around the tailgate and part of the C-pillar.
The interior boasts a sleek minimalist vibe, but two features really catch the eye inside the cabin. First up is the uniquely shaped steering wheel, which is flat on both the top and bottom. Then there's the impressive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s positioned vertically. This screen handles everything from climate control to navigation and multimedia. Interestingly, Volvo decided to skip a driver display behind the steering wheel entirely. To add a twist, there are no buttons at all on the dashboard. The infotainment system, developed in partnership with Google, comes with built-in services like Google Maps, Spotify, and YouTube right out of the box, and you can also download more apps from the Google Play Store.
Volvo's EX30 is set to come with two battery pack options worldwide. The base model features a Single Motor with a 51 kWh battery, while the long-range versions boast a 69 kWh battery pack. The EX30 can handle a charging capacity of 134 kW, and the larger battery versions can go up to 153 kW for quick charging, allowing them to charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 25 minutes.
Volvo's EX30 entry-level Single Motor variant pumps out 272 hp and offers an electric SUV with a claimed range of 344 km. It features a 51 kWh lithium-ferrophosphate (LFP) battery that skips cobalt, making it more affordable compared to other EV batteries. The Single Motor Extended Range version keeps the same motor but adds a larger 69 kWh battery, boosting the range to 480 km. Meanwhile, the top-tier Twin Motor Performance version boasts a dual electric motor that delivers 428 hp. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, making it the quickest Volvo ever, with a range of 460 km on a single charge.
The Volvo EX30 is the tiniest electric vehicle from the Swedish brand. In India, it’ll compete with models like the BMW iX1 LWB, Mercedes-Benz EQA, as well as the BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. If Volvo decides to produce the EX30 locally, we can expect the price to be in the range of ₹45 to ₹50 lakh, with all prices being ex-showroom.
