Volvo Cars is preparing to unveil its newest electric sedan, the ES90, at an official event scheduled for March 5. The Swedish automotive manufacturer has disclosed additional information regarding this forthcoming electric vehicle, which serves as the electrified counterpart to the S90. The ES90 will join the ranks of other electric models in Volvo's global portfolio, including the EX90, EX40, and C40 Recharge. According to Volvo, the ES90 is set to be one of the longest-range electric vehicles available and will also be the fastest charging model in their lineup.

The introduction of an 800 Volt architecture is expected to enhance the ES90's charging capabilities, efficiency, and overall performance. This higher voltage system will enable the vehicle to provide increased power and range, further supported by lighter electric motors and components. Anders Bell, Chief Engineering Technology Officer at Volvo, stated, “This technology increases the efficiency of our electric cars, helps you charge your electric Volvo faster and go further on a single charge."

Volvo ES90: The fastest charging Volvo EV

For the first time, the ES90 electric sedan will feature an 800 Volt architecture, allowing it to charge more rapidly than any previous Volvo electric vehicle. The manufacturer claims that utilizing a 350 kW fast charger will enable the ES90 to gain sufficient charge in just 10 minutes to cover approximately 300 kilometers. Furthermore, Volvo asserts that the vehicle can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 20 minutes, ultimately offering a range of 700 kilometers on a single charge, as per the WLTP cycle.

Volvo ES90 will be an AI-driven EV

The Volvo ES90 sedan will also be equipped with advanced core computing and AI-driven safety features. It will utilize a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, delivering significant computing power. The Orin processor is capable of executing up to 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), facilitating various functions such as AI-driven safety protocols, sensor management, and battery optimization.

Volvo ES90: Safety features

The ES90 will incorporate Volvo's Safe Space Technology, which employs lidar, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors to identify obstacles and improve safety. These integrated systems collaborate to deliver proactive safety features, including collision avoidance and enhanced detection during nighttime.

Following its global launch, the Volvo ES90 is expected to enter the Indian market. In India, it will face competition from models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW i5, and the forthcoming Audi A6 e-tron.
