Volkswagen has officially announced the introduction of the Golf GTI in India, alongside the forthcoming launch of the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line for the Indian market. The Golf GTI is set to be released in the second quarter of 2025, with its debut anticipated as early as April 2025.

In India, the Volkswagen Golf GTI will be available as a completely built unit (CBU), with an expected allocation of only 250 units. It has been reported that certain dealerships have already started accepting pre-orders for this model.

Volkswagen Golf GTI: Design 

The 2024 Golf GTI upholds the legacy of its distinctive design features, maintaining a classic sporty and assertive appearance. The front showcases the iconic Volkswagen grille, prominently displaying the 'GTI' badge. The headlight assembly is upgraded with matrix-LED headlamps, providing enhanced visibility and visual appeal. Below, the aggressive front bumper, characterized by a large honeycomb mesh pattern, further accentuates its sporty demeanor.

At the rear, a sporty diffuser and dual exhausts reinforce the performance-oriented design. Standard 18-inch 'Richmond' alloy wheels are included, while 19-inch wheels are available for those seeking an additional enhancement in visual impact.

Volkswagen Golf GTI: Interior and technology

The VW Golf GTI showcases a sleek all-black interior design, characterized by a practical dashboard arrangement. It is equipped with sport bucket seats designed to ensure a supportive seating experience. Additionally, the three-spoke steering wheel features a prominent GTI emblem. This sporty aesthetic is further enhanced by metallic pedals and GTI-specific digital climate controls.

At the heart of the interior is a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, providing seamless connectivity with smartphones and incorporating contemporary automotive technology. To enhance comfort and convenience, the vehicle also includes automatic climate control and wireless phone charging capabilities.

Volkswagen Golf GTI: Specifications

The VW Golf GTI is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain generates 245 bhp and delivers a maximum torque of 370 Nm to the front wheels. The hatchback is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in a claimed time of 5.9 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 250 km/h.

Volkswagen Golf GTI: Expected price

The Golf GTI aims to establish itself as a quintessential performance hatchback in the Indian market, where it will face few direct competitors. The primary rival in this segment is the Mini Cooper S, which is also recognized as an iconic performance hatchback. The ex-showroom price of the Golf GTI is anticipated to be around ₹50 lakh, underscoring its premium positioning and performance characteristics.
